You know the feeling when you’ve been working at a long-ish project for quite a while, and it’s beginning to get more substantial?
When I started writing short stories a few years ago, some of my characters stayed with me. Over time, they began showing up in my awareness at random moment of my life – at the grocery store, during morning exercises, walking around downtown Charlottesville. I’d get ideas about how to make their lives more complicated. This has had the effect of making my life more complicated.
Now I have begun telling people I’m working on a book-length group of linked short stories. Yikes. Deluded? Perhaps. Excited? Yep.
